Translated Poem : Voice of a Voice

~Tanka Upreti~
Tranlated by : Mukul Dahal

Voice of a giant nagara?
Roar of a tiger?
Lightning?
Or the bellow of an explosion?

I long to let out the
Loudest shriek in the world.

I have been here
away from the capital at a remote countryside.
I know the tales of farm and crops
Gestures of the weather
And the journey through the tunnel of pain.

I long to yell the loudest in the world
So as to break apart the tunnel.
Smashing the breast of the ruler,
I wish to register
The voice of my pain’s voice.
