Poem : An unattended shopping cart

~Prabhat Karki~

I was roaming around in a mall, the other day.
I was alone like an unattended shopping cart
With a squeaky wheel that no one wants to drag around
I was confused a bit, not exactly lost, but was searching for the answer
Don’t laugh at me, I know, ” Answer in the Mall??”
Everything in the mall was on SALE.
Walls of posters on the Store windows,
25% -50% SALE!!!

So inviting to the eyes of need and greed..
Prowling villages of bargain hunters and sale seekers…
So sure so certain.. always searching for the best deals.
I’m no different,
The pants I wear were on 25% sale.
The shoes on my feet were on 50% sale.
The shirt on my back were 20 bucks off the regular price.
I always search for the price cut downs among the shelves in the grocery store aisles.
I feel relieved to know that I’m paying less than my friends for the space I rent.
Everything I own is a bargain..
Not just me all of us.
We are all immersed neck deep on our own puke of good deals and bargains.
The lives are becoming cheaper.
Maybe it’s the off season sale of life.
The love we look for and find are on the store shelves with a price tag.
The answers, which most of us seemed to have found, well if you look closely are on the labels of the shopping bags.
The shopping bags, that were swinging all over the halls of the mall that I was roaming around the other day.
