Essay : Desire

Why not try to overcome the limitation
That makes us think we could not be perfect.

—Jonathan

We know that the cosmopolitans of twenty-one century have entered into the age where competitions are themselves in their rightful circumstances and are framed by the demand of three factors: Space, time and matter. So far, as we make an approach to the evolution of the Earth we come to know that by the interval of billions of years the faces of this Earth have been transformed. The science of nature defines that the ‘Mass’ is always conserved and can neither be created nor can be destroyed though it can be transformed from one form to another. The highest and ever wonderful creation of the universe is human beings on this physical planet. The transformation of the faces of the Earth is also due to human wills and desire for perfection. Men have collectively fashioned this world. Nowadays, science and scientific technologies are trying to find out and solve many mysteries of the universe and human-life-world and will keep on doing. Satisfaction is a certain kind of dying or somehow a full stop as it keeps a person away from his ‘Karma’.

The dissatisfaction and desires for perfection push one going on though there may be many hindrances, barriers and difficulties in achieving a set goal. There are no genuine mistakes but perseverance pays. The synonym of will is a desire and it also means a longing want which bears value to the concerned and anyone may dream to have it or make it. Hence, dream generally means desire, will, want and thought and attempt in action go throughout life and will themselves find out some ways and commitments. Yet, nothing could be known after death. Here, we may present the man of three personalities: Indian Missile Man, Nuclear Scientist and former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, who speaks his ‘Mantra of Dream’ to some school children in one of his meets of addressing ‘A Vision of Developed India’ with the lines “Dream! Dream!! Dream!!! Dream transforms into thoughts, thoughts result in action. Success always follows dream attempted though there may be some setbacks and delays.” To him, ‘Dream’ is not that we see in our sleep but it is that which does not let us sleep. Believing in our works is more important for us because we get energy from our beliefs. If a role model happens to inspire a child to set a goal from the very beginning of his learning he naturally creates a belief that he can achieve his special goal and works with indomitable spirit and will. However, sometimes, there may be some setbacks and delays but nothing is impossible. All that we see in this world is the embodiment of energy where we are a part of the cosmic energy too.

Desire is like an odd number creating a desire for an even number and which also means a desire for desires. When the odd number is turned into the even number consequently as default even is always odd. The only solution is the end of one’s body together with soul on this Earth to which we feel as complete silence of one and consider it as an ultimate satisfaction. But that would be very negative and wrong to do and that is why we go with life and life is one plus one positively resulting in one. Negative pole and negative pole come into a regular repulsion and same is the case with positive pole respectively. Nature is a symbol of curiosity which expresses a desire subjectively and objectively. For example, even to reach a stage of ‘Samadhi’ one basically needs a minimum desire for it and here we loosely talk of an ethical desire. For obtaining an extra-ordinary result in any examination one needs a desire for it. Everything that one succeeds is up to one’s own choice or power of choices. Thus says Richard Bach the American new-age author, “We can have excuses or we can have health, love, longevity, understanding, adventure, happiness, we design our lives through the power of choices. We are each given a block of marble when we design a lifetime and the tools to shape it into sculpture. We can drag it behind us untouched, we can pound it into gravel and we can shape it into glory.”

Desires mean a desire for perfection and ethically rising beyond doubts from impossible to possible, that is, beyond average ability and breaking the limitation that makes us think we could not be perfect. There are not genuine mistakes but perseverance will eventually find its own ways and commitments. There are no genuine mistakes but commitment and perseverance pay. Therefore, a desire will itself invoke us for breaking the limitation that limits us but not always with the use of Nietzsche’s ‘Ethics of Will to Power’ rather with ‘Ethical Desire’.
