Poem : A Country Nearest to the Heaven

~Noriko Mizusaki~

Deep purplish blue was the sky above the Himalaya mountains
Long walking on the broken trails along the edge of the cliff
Crossing the crevice in a danger of falling down
With a sudden stop when I looked upward
I saw the sky there
Far below us the clear river was flowing slowly
Just opposite to us the Himalaya mountains soar up to the sky
On the bank below people trekking looked like ants
At last I had reached here the Himalaya areas

The small village we reached at the end was
named Kakubeni
Two thousand meters above the sea level
There also people were living together
A sun- burnt woman was washing clothes
in a clear stream
Tying her scarf at her back of the head
Women in Nepal’s costume
Squatting in front of their houses and greeted me
saying “namaste”(hallo)
A black horse was walking with sounds of steps before me
with a heavy load on the back
Black eyes of the yak lying on the ground before our lodge

They kill each other everyday with maoists in Nepal
But this is the place which is the nearest to the heaven
At dawn in pale darkness at one time
The morning sun spotted suddenly on the top
of Yarigiri Mount.
