Micro Story : Poems in Eyes

~Eagam Khaling~

A college girl was travelling in a local bus. A man just sited next to her seat, exaggerates about her eyes. They talk on many topics. While parting, the man tells her that there are poems in her eyes. At that moment, she just ignores, but later that eats all of her peace of mind. She starts feeling her life more beautiful than before though she regrets forgetting to ask the name of the gentleman. That day, she quickly completes her works in the market and returns to home thinking about that poet like a gentleman.

When she reached her home, she directly enters into her room and stands in front of the dressing mirror. There, she looks at her eyes from different angles with a strange feeling which she had never done before. But despite her long search, she cannot discover any poem in her eyes. Later, she gets dejection at the mirror, and her eyes begin to ache, but still, there is not any poem.

One day she was roaming with her mates in a Mela, a little boy asks her whether she would sell her eyes or not. She jokingly asks him rejecting his nonsense offer, “Can eyes be sold? What a nonsense boy!” However, that made her happy for many days, and she had started loving her eyes. Again, one day, sitting upon the dining table, she just tells her mother looking deep in her eyes, “Mum! You have poems in your eyes!” Mum timidly replies, “Don’t get yourself stupid you are just a hundred per cent like your dad!”

Latter, laying on the bed, she keeps thinking over the question “Why do people have poems in their eyes?”
