Poem : Life and death

~Baba Hajoor~

The sky was blue as blue could be,
the fields a tender green.
The sun had risen over the horizon,
it all seemed ethereal to me.

My heart kept on soaring higher and higher,
like a caged bird at large,
which had finally got its freedom again, or
as if travelling leisurely on a royal barge.

Everything seemed so new to me ,
and there was lots to see;
from the blooming flowers to the sprinting deers,
and not forget the busy bee.

The white cotton clouds flitting across the sky,
the ships in the bluest sea.
the snow capped mountains , a pretty sight,
brought feelings of ecstasy in me.

I wished I could go on enjoying these things,
which the sighted can everyday see;
which the poets mention every now and then,
In their poems of sadness and glee.

Feeling jubilant and exhilarated as I drifted towards the middle,
I sauntered to an unknown path like a horse without a bridle.
Then things went wrong , gone was the song .
No force could save me, the pain would not prolong.

Moving slowly towards darkness from light ,
I struggle to grasp the smallest straw in sight.
I tremble I shake as I felt myself pulled into the gaping dismal pitch;
there was a ringing in my head which said —
Mamma please don’t let go of me ,
Let me stay within your reach.
